Neutral Bohemian Home Accents

I have always been a fan of neutral decor regardless of any current style trends. Neutral, in my mind, meaning a white, cream, tan, brown, gray and black color palette. Even as my style has evolved from rustic farmhouse to more eclectic bohemian in the past couple of years, I still find myself drawn to neutrals and love having them surround my home, now often punctuated with more colorful pieces. I am also a huge fan of texture. Neutrals + texture = pure heaven in my book!
Today, I am sharing some of my favorites pieces that fit the bill. I have several of these pieces in my own home so you can see first hand how I have incorporated them to fit my style.

Holiday Home Tour 2015

This Christmas season has been special for me. With a three and four year old, it is absolutely the best time of year, so I have been taking things slow to savor all of the sweet moments and create lasting memories. I decided to hold off on doing a holiday home tour post for just that reason, but I'm happy to share it with you today.
I was invited to two large group tours and was a bit sad to turn them down, but I knew it would cause me a lot of stress getting our home all done up the week after Thanksgiving. I wanted to take my time and not get lost focusing on what everyone else would be impressed by, but what would make every day magical for my little ones. So that is what I am sharing today: our kid-centered, real life holiday home. I hope you enjoy the "visit"…

Creating a Personal & Cozy Home for Fall

Fall is in all its glory here in Western New York right now. My favorite time of year! The leaves are reaching their peak colors and just enough of them are falling off for the kids to jump and play. I shared my fall home tour last month, but today, I wanted to share with you how I strive to make this season personal and cozy for my family. I am joining in with some of my best blogging friends for Seasons of Home: Fall Edition. Be sure to visit them at the end of this post to see what fall inspiration they have to share!
Even just as a hint of this season is in the air, my whole spirit is lifted in a way I can't describe in words. I become alive all over again…my senses are awakened and my focus shifts to what matters most…enjoying every minute of this fleeting time.

Swap It Like It’s Hot #4 {easy thrift store upcycles}

Do you ever feel like creativity is seriously lacking in your brain? Mine has been dormant for like…awhile. Not sure what happened these past few months. The role of mom is turning it into Swiss cheese or something. But when Charlotte of Ciburbanity invited me to join in for #SwapItLikeItsHot round four I said yes anyway! I love these challenges where bloggers send each other inexpensive thrift store finds to get made over.
Unfortunately, even getting some awesome thrifted goods from Bee of Windgate Lane did not kick my brain into gear. I have mulled over it ever since the items arrives, wondering what to do with the cool finds sent to me and the only thing I REALLY wanted to do with them, was leave them as is. But I know…I know…that would not make for good thrift store upcycling inspiration would it?

Natural Bohemian Fall Mantel

Last week, I showed my most recent mantel vignette in the second part of my fall home tour. Today, I am showing you more details of how I decorated it for fall this year. It has some similarities to last year's…natural with vintage finds, but this time around with more bohemian style thrown in.

Log Cabin Home Tour: Living Room & Porch

Last month when my family went to the Adirondacks, we had the pleasure of staying at a beautiful private log home. I previously shared the kitchen and dining room in this post, but today, I am excited to bring you back inside to tour the comfortable living room and serene cabin porch.
Upon entering the cabin, the living room was off to the left. No frills or fancy vaulted ceilings or stone fireplace like what you might imagine when you hear "log home", but it was very inviting and had a mix of relaxed and eclectic pieces. It truly felt like a home.

Fall Home Tour: The Porch & Kitchen

Welcome to the first installment of my fall home tour for 2015! If you came by way of Cozy Little House, I am thrilled you popped in for a visit. Be sure to head back over if you missed Brenda's tour. Today, I will be giving you a tour of our front porch and a rarely seen room on my blog…the kitchen!
I hope you enjoy your visit here today and do come back on Thursday, when I will share my second installment with the living room and dining room tours.

Let's get started…my husband and our two small children live in a tiny town just outside of Rochester, NY. The weather has been all over the place here lately, but just started to feel like fall. This is definitely my favorite time of year.

Rustic Bohemian Light Fixtures {under $300}

This post contains affiliate links. I may receive a small commission from any sales made through them, but the cost to you does not change. Full Disclosure.

I have been trying to decide on a new light fixture for our living room for awhile now. The thing is…I am having a hard time nailing down exactly what style and finish I want. Eclectic? Rustic? Midcentury? Moroccan? Geometric? Wood? Beaded? Copper? Brass? Iron? There are so many options it almost feels impossible to decide some days. Then there is the factor of cost. Really beautiful and unique fixtures can be upwards of $2,000. Yikes! #aintnevergonnahappen.
I decided to do some looking online to start narrowing down styles that appeal to me to get the ball rolling. I have no idea yet what direction I will go in, but today I am sharing with you ten chandeliers and pendant lights that I think would fit perfectly with a rustic bohemian interior style. Each is under $300 (not including any additional fees like shipping or tax). I hope you enjoy these! Let me know your favorite at the end!

Oh, hello fall {free printable}

Fall is is pretty much here in my book (except for the extremely hot weather we are experiencing right now in Western New York), so, for me, it's time to start bringing the warmth and beauty of autumn all throughout my home. Today, I am excited to usher in fall with several other talented bloggers as we share decorating vignettes, along with free printables, for you to enjoy all season long!
I love, love, love this time of year. I really can't say it enough. So much beauty to behold and comforts that bring me back to the best memories of childhood: jumping in leaves, going to pick out pumpkins, selecting a Halloween costume, good food, family get-togethers, the scent in the air. There is pretty much nothing that I don't love about fall expect maybe that it is too short. It always seems to go by in a flash. Oh if I could just hold onto it for a bit longer.

Casual Midcentury Bohemian {Living Room Design Inspiration}

This post contains affiliate links. I may receive a small commission from any sales made through them, but the cost to you does not change. Full Disclosure.

It's always fun to dream about how you could decorate a space. Especially if you could start from scratch and money was no object, right? Today, I am doing just that with this "casual midcentury bohemian" mood board for a living room space. My living room is quite a bit different, but I love styling furniture and decor in a variety of ways. Hope you enjoy this curated collection!

I am increasingly drawn to midcentury style furnishings and decor. They are finding their way into my home little by little and are now the items I am seeking out when going to thrift stores and flea markets. I have allowed my inner "bohemian" style to infuse itself into every facet of our home for the past year, and I love the two styles pulled together into one cohesive, relaxed look.

Log Cabin Home Tour: Kitchen & Dining Room

As I mentioned last week, I have been preparing a full log cabin home tour from our recent stay in the Adirondacks. Today, I am so excited to get it started with the kitchen and dining room! If you missed the personal side of the trip, you can check that out here. I will have follow up posts with tours of the living room, master bedroom and more, in the coming weeks so stay tuned. For now, come on in and enjoy a virtual tour of this dreamy log home's kitchen and dining room…
My mom was actually the one who found this rental cabin listed on vacationrentals.com. I have a thing for log cabins and was so excited when my mom showed me this one. The reviews were great and it looked amazing in the pictures. It was honestly even better in person!

New Rug for the Bedroom {sneak peek}

This post contains affiliate links. I may receive a small commission from any sales made through them, but the cost to you does not change. Thanks for the support! Full Disclosure.

Today, I am so excited to give you a sneak peek of the new rug I recently purchased for our in-the-works bedroom makeover! I will actually be on a little getaway to Lake Placid when this post goes live, but I wanted to get it ready to show you before I left. Because I am seriously that in love with it. No joke. If you follow me on Instagram you may have already seen it, but if not, here it is…drum roll…
Finding affordable and awesome rugs can be tricky. I see so many rugs that I would love to own, but they are often way out of our budget. Even the vintage ones with wear and tear. I saw one recently at an antique store that had seen better days and it was still $175. A smaller one in better condition was $250. {Insert my sad face here as I walked away empty handed}.

25+ Ways to Decorate with Affordable Vintage Finds

I love decorating with vintage finds, mostly because they have charm and character but also because I am super thrifty. I love to find a bargain. Always have and likely always will. I scour thrift stores, flea markets, antique malls, garage sales and even the side of the road to find unique and affordable (or free!) pieces. Today, I am sharing a round-up of ways that I have decorated with and repurposed some of these vintage finds in my own home.
The majority of these images have appeared in previous blog posts, so be sure to click on the links beneath each for more details!

Vintage Bohemian Wall Hanging

What happens when you take a thrift store doily, hang it from a branch, and add some feathers? You get a vintage inspired wall hanging with bohemian style! I've had this crocheted doily hanging in my upstairs gallery wall for several months but decided to give it a little tweak. It already had some boho flare with the fringe at the bottom, but I wanted to enhance it even more and finally did…
This was nothing too fancy, mind you, and 99% of the work was already done for me, which made putting it together super easy. I am always amazed by the skill and talent of people who can crochet like this. Such tiny, intricate detailing! Definitely not in my skill set. But embellishing? Now, that I can do.

How to Create a Rustic Bohemian Living Room {Source List & Inspiration}

Last April, I shared our living room redo with a new leather sofa. Overall the room has a rustic, vintage style with bohemian touches. Since I get a lot of questions about sources, I put together a list with several elements of the room, along with close alternatives for items that were vintage finds or not available online. I hope you enjoy this curated collection inspired by my own living room!
Note: Items are not shown to scale.
I am an avid thrift store, flea market and garage sale shopper, so many of the items that I decorate with are one of a kind or impossible to find online. This source list offers both items that I actually own, as well as close alternatives that have similar appeal.

July Dining Room Mantel Vignette

It's no secret that I like to change out my mantel decor…a lot. If you visit here regularly, your probably know this. Today, I am sharing how I just recently redid it for the month of July. I kept it fairly simple with a mixture of vintage and eclectic pieces, hints of black, potted succulents and fresh cut flowers from the yard.
We bought this old mantel from a local salvage shop and gave it a makeover a couple of years ago. It used to have very chippy brown paint. It has lived in our dining room for the past several years. Sometimes, I want to move it back to the living room where I first put it, since in my mind, it seems that is where a mantel is "supposed" to go. But whenever I look at it with our antique chandelier above it, I know this is really where it belongs.

Moments in Real Life {Using Photography to Find Beauty in the Every Day}

Sometimes I think there is just too much "put together perfectness" on the internet. And then we can start believing our messy, real life lives are less than. Not as good. Just don't measure up. I do this. Often. Too often.
I remember telling my sister-in-law awhile back that when I look at my stove and it's dirty, all that I hear inside my mind is "Failure!" As if it were a measure of judgment on my character. I feel that way when I see laundry piled up, toys strewn all over the living room, dishes overflowing in the sink, etc. A failure because every moment of my life doesn't look picture perfect like the photos I scroll through on Pinterest and Instagram and blogs.

Her response to my messy stove, "I think it means you're normal."

Don't get me wrong. I love those pictures. Heck, I even share those pictures. I am often very inspired by seeing those pictures. But after awhile…something else happens. I get off of my phone or computer, look around and feel disappointment. That this life I have here isn't "all together" like it appears to be for others through those images. Those seconds when, an often staged, photograph was taken. Not real life.

This has inspired me to try something different. Something real.

Creative Bookshelf Styling

You might recall last week, when I talked about my obsession with shelf styling? I cannot get enough inspiration for it. I am constantly swooning over images I find on Pinterest and blogs, especially being fond of everything Emily Henderson and Joanna Gains do. I love the mixture of eclectic, flea market and one of a kind finds mixed in with inspiring reads.
I have a round up today will several examples of shelf styling ideas from my own blogging friends as well as some from my very own home. I hope you enjoy these!
